Malathi Sharma's golden voice has enthralled audience for more than 25 years and she has carved a niche in the minds of all sugam sangeeth lovers.
She has been serving All India Radio and Doordarshan as an 'A Top' Sugam Sangeeth Artist. She, along with her sister-in-law, Smt Ratnamala Prakash, has performed all over India and has been a part of several cultural programmes organized by Kannada and Culture. She has represented Karnataka in Vishwa Kannada Sammelana held in Phoenix, AZ in 1998. She has given a number of concerts in the USA and Singapore.
Malathi Sharma was the lead singer and a contibutor to the success of 'Nector in stone' , a documentary on the renowned sculptures of Belur and Halebid produced by Bangalore Doordarshan which won an International Award. She has spread her wings to the film field by lending her melodious voice to movies like Sampradaya, Gurusarvabhouma Raghavendra Karune, Kotreshi Kanasu and many more. She has popularised the poems of many veteran as well as young poets through her singing. She has more than 50 audio casettes to her credit. She has sung several songs in the direction of Mysore Ananthaswamy,C Aswath, Padmacharan, H.K Narayana and many more.Malathi Sharma contributed enormously to Karnataka Theater, at a time when there was a dearth for female performers. She travelled all over Karnataka for performances with Legend of Kannada Theater, Sri B.V Karanth, who brought out the hidden talent in her and honed her acting skills. Badalsarkar's "Evam Indrajith" took her to the peak of her acting career. Her expression, dialogue delivery, presentation and the passion for the field held the audience spell bound. She has also performed with stalwarts in the field of kannada theater like M.S Sathyu, R Nagesh and Prasanna. She Played the lead role in the drama "Miss Julie", directed by professor K.R. Sudheendra Sharma, a well known theater person.
She was honored and conferred with the title "Karnataka Kala Tilaka" for the valuable contribution to the field of sugam sangeeth in the year 1994-1995 by Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy. She has also been conferred with Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, P Kalinga Rao Award, Arya Bhata Prashasthi, and "Artiste of the Year" Award by Gayana Samaj.
